Residents of Milwaukee s Halyard Park fear being taxed out their homes

Lennie Mosley, president of the Halyard Park Neighborhood Association, first moved to the area with her husband in 1980. Back then, she said, few people wanted to live there. Now, the neighborhood s location within walking distance of Fiserv Forum and related projects has put its housing in high demand and led to a sharp rise in property taxes. In recent decades, the adjacent Brewers Hill neighborhood experienced gentrification, with longtime residents pushed out as property values skyrocketed due to demand from wealthier buyers who moved in, resulting in higher tax bills for all. With Fisker, Foxconn Technology Group Chairman Young-way Liu says global leaders in innovation are joining forces. But critics who have followed the company are skeptical. Downtown Milwaukee Area Plan Update Kicks Off

Downtown Milwaukee Area Plan Update Kicks Off Billions of dollars in investment and thousands of new residential units later, Milwaukee is ready to update the plan for its downtown. March 4, 2021, 6am PST | James Brasuell | Jeramey Jannene reports on the initial push to update the Milwaukee Downtown Area Plan from the previous update approved in 2010. This would be third Downtown Plan update in as many decades, according to Jannene. Milwaukee Downtown, the area business improvement district, is providing $100,000 to fund the process, and the city is chipping in $50,000. A previous initiative by MKE United has already completed some of the foundational work of building a shared and inclusive vision for Downtown, explains Jannene.

Angela Major/WPR In late February, Foxconn executives announced plans to begin manufacturing electric vehicles for California-based start-up Fisker Inc. Both companies said the collaboration will “revolutionize the automotive industry.” They compared their work to the scientific discoveries of Isaac Newton. And  hinted they could even manufacture the cars here in Wisconsin. The partnership announcement is the latest for the Taiwanese mega-manufacturer. It follows a string of high-profile announcements that have been abandoned by the company or that have severely underperformed the company’s promises.
