It began on Jan 17, 1991, in response to Iraq invasion of Kuwait and concluded on Feb 28, 1991, when the American-led United Nations team won a decisive tank battle, featuring the M-l Abrams Tank, in the desert.
Hence, it is sometimes referred to as the “42-day war.” Thank goodness, because once you signed on for a military duty, you were committed until the conclusion. However, “last in, first out” did apply.
