Dipton dog taking on the trans-Tasman Cobber Challenge

The dogs will wear a GPS collar to track how far, fast and for how long they work over a three-week period from August 16 to September 5. Josh Tosh, a casual shepherd, has entered his up and coming dog Trix because she’s agile, fit and works about 10 hours a day. He’s had her since she was 10 weeks old and trained her himself. At two and a half years old she’s an up and comer in his pack of 12 working dogs that he has. Hundreds of houses without power due to strong winds in Central Otago

“That’s pretty windy for them,” MetService meteorologist Peter Little said. An urgent warning issued by Aurora Energy said some customers would not have their power restored before Wednesday and should prepare for a forecast cold snap, including possible snow. To provide warmth, hot drinks, toilet, water and cooking facilities, Aurora Energy contractors had connected a generator to the Millers Flat Hall on Tuesday evening. It would remain in place until power was restored in all affected areas, largely in Ettrick/Millers Flat, Raes Junction and surrounding rural areas. Contractors worked into the evening and sent extra power line patrols and resources to find where trees had crossed lines and to conduct repairs.
