CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It’s beautiful outside today at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, when we visit Milo Anderson and Regan Anthony who take us inside the zoo’s very noisy flamingo habitat. Right now the flamingos are the brightest and loudest they will be all year as they are getting ready for mating season.
The Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens in Columbia, S.C. is open, but for a limited number of visitors each day and reserved timed tickets are required for entry. The are also offering Z-learning on-line programs. For more information on the zoo’s hours, current programs, events and Z-learning go to their website riverbanks.org. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – This week, during our trip to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, Milo Anderson and Bird Keeper, Samantha Amstutz, join us to introduce us to Cinereous vultures. These birds serve as nature’s recyclers and possess adaptations specially designed to help them do their dirty work. Their beaks and talons are designed to handle meat, and their digestive tract can neutralize diseases including anthrax, botulism and cholera!

CHARLOTTE. N.C. During the pandemic the Riverbanks Zoo has been holding virtual programs to introduce people all over the country to some of the great animals that live at the zoo. Today Milo Anderson with the Riverbanks Zoo gives us an up-close and personal look at Callie the Hedgehog. Callie is an adult African Pygmy hedgehog that is one of the zoo’s “animal ambassadors.”
