Indiana Department of Education Awards $122 Million to Support Accelerated Learning

Eagle Country 99.3 By Indiana Department of Education Several local schools and organizations benefitted from the grant program INDIANAPOLIS - Gov. Eric J. Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) announced today that more than $122 million in state grant funds is being awarded to 110 community partners and schools across the state to help accelerate student learning this summer and beyond. Awardees of Indiana’s new Student Learning Recovery Grant Program will serve students in 83 of Indiana’s 92 counties.  Local recipients and the schools/organizations benefitting include:  Choices Coordinated Care Solutions (Sunman-Dearborn Community School Corporation) - $63,533.64 East Central Indiana Educational Service Center(Franklin County Community School Corporation, Greensburg School Corporation and several others) - $3,526,000.00

Educator of the Week: Jennifer Alford

WBBJ TV April 9, 2021 GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. It’s time to recognize this week’s Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.  Jennifer Alford has only been teaching for three years. However, she has known since she was a child that it is what she wanted to do.  “My sister had a learning disability when she was younger. Seeing her struggle and helping her with that really encouraged me to become a teacher,” Alford said. Alford is now teaching multiple subjects to her fourth grade class at Milan Elementary School. She loves what she does but says it isn’t the easiest job sometimes – especially at the beginning. 

Milan Elementary Announces Kindergarten/Preschool Registration Date

Eagle Country 99.3 By Travis Thayer (Milan, Ind.) - Milan Elementary School is ready to get your child registered for kindergarten and preschool.  The registration event will take place on Thursday, April 1 at Milan Elementary School. Registration sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day in half-hour increments with the final session beginning at 4:00 p.m. Parents and guardians are asked to call the school at 812-654-2922 to indicate which session you and your child will be attending. Masks are required.  It should be noted that children who will be entering the school should be present, but due to lack of space and time involved, the school asks that other children do not attend.
