norman lebrecht February 16, 2021 The outgoing music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will make a surprise debut next week with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Press release: We are proud to announce that Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla, or simply ”Mirga” to enthusiastic audiences all around, will conduct the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time. The concert is livestreamed for free from Konserthuset Stockholm on Thursday February 25 (no login required). Swedish orchestras have been interim launchpads for several international careers, notably Gustavo Dudamel and Alan Gilbert. Here are some more Swedish blooms: Esa-Pekka Salonen (principal conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1984 to 1995)
