Friends of the Solana Beach Library awards scholarships to six local students July 9, 2021 4:11 PM PT Print The Directors of the Friends of the Solana Beach Library recently announced the winners of the 2021 Friends Scholarships for education beyond the high school level. Five of this year’s six winners of the $1,000 scholarships were seniors from Torrey Pines High School (TPHS), and the sixth was homeschooled. All of them were supported by outstanding letters of recommendation from their teachers and others. And all showed determination and resourcefulness in dealing with the challenges of applying during COVID-19 restrictions. Community Colleges identify pandemic-resilient jobs A new report identifies more than sixty jobs that remain in demand despite the Coronavirus pandemic and last updated 2020-12-16 20:19:13-05 SAN DIEGO — More than 100 thousand San Diegans have lost their jobs amid the coronavirus outbreak, and some of those positions have disappeared forever. But a new report from the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community College Association has identified 66 jobs as pandemic resilient. “It s an expensive place to live, this county, and so we need people to be able to have jobs that will be able to help sustain their families,” said Dr. Sunny Cooke, superintendent of the MiraCosta Community College District.

MiraCosta College appoints new members to bond committee

Print MiraCosta College recently appointed two Carlsbad residents to its Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee for the MiraCosta Community College District. The bond committee provides public oversight of the district’s $455 Measure MM bond, which passed in November 2016. Rigdon Currie and Michael Krival, the new members, were appointed to two-year terms effective through Nov. 18, 2022. Measure MM is funding construction, renovations, technology and infrastructure upgrades, and public safety and accessibility at the college’s Oceanside and San Elijo campuses, and its Community Learning Center, also in Oceanside. Currie will be the committee’s delegate representing senior citizens. Currie served in the Air Force for two years before becoming an executive for the Xerox Corporation and later a venture capitalist. Currie is a graduate of Georgia Tech and Harvard Business School, and has been a board member for several nonprofits.
