The maker of a popular dry cat food brand has issued a limited voluntary recall in several U.S. states after tests have determined the product may possibly have a link to bacteria that could sicken pets.

The J. M. Smucker Co just announced a limited, voluntary recall of some Meow Mix brand cat food due to potential salmonella contamination. This concern is not only a risk for pets, but the salmonella can infect humans as well when the product is handled by pet owners. The recall affects 30-pound bags of Meow Mix Original Choice Dry Cat Food that were sold at Walmart stores across the midwest. This includes: Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The recalled bags have the UPC codes of 2927452099 and best by dates of September 14 and September 15 of 2022. If you purchased this product, it is urge you dispose of it immediately and be sure to wash your hands after handling the packaging to be safe. If your cat consumed the Meow Mix or is is experiencing symptoms, contact a vet immediately.
