A popular brand of dry cat food is being voluntarily recalled by it s manufacturer. The J. M. Smucker Company is recalling two specific lots of its Meow Mix Original Choice Dry Cat Food due to the potential of salmonella contamination. The 30-pound bags were sold at select Walmart locations in a variety of states - including Wisconsin.
At the present time, there have been no reports of any pets getting sick or having adverse reactions to the pet food. However, the company is being cautious due to the potential for illness.
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, the potential for salmonella in the pet food doesn t just pose a problem for cats, it could also transfer to humans. That transfer could happen especially if they have not washed their hands after having contact with their cat s food, food surfaces, and/or cats that have been in contact with the impacted product .

SALT LAKE CITY â The J.M. Smucker Company has issued a voluntary recall of two lots of Meow Mix bags sold in several states, including Utah and Wyoming, over concerns about potential salmonella contamination. The impacted products were sold at select Walmart stores in IL, MO, NE, NM, OK, UT, WI and WY, a recall advisory on the FDA s website says.
The 30 lb. Meow Mix bags with potential salmonella contamination can be identified by the UPC codes, lot codes and Best If Used By dates on the bottom and back of each bag.
