UNITED NATIONS: The influx of refugees from Myanmar at the Indian and Thai borders and elsewhere is ominous and likely just the beginning, UN Secretary General s special envoy on Myanmar has told the Security Council, warning that regional security could deteriorate further and no country in the region would want a failed state as their neighbour.

Aizawl (Mizoram) [India], April 1 (ANI): Days after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) asked four northeastern states including Mizoram to take appropriate action to prevent a possible influx of people from coup-hit Myanmar into India, Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Thursday said that he is sending a delegation to Delhi to request the Central government to change India s foreign policy on Myanmar and not to send the refugees back.
Stating that the Indian Government should be more open to Myanmarese people, the Chief Miniter said that once the refugees from the military-ruled country come to Mizoram, they should be provided with food and shelter on humanitarian grounds.

The Minister raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha in line with the recent Ministry of Home Affairs MHA directives that have instructed the four Northeastern states to block the entry of those fleeing from Myanmar.

NEW DELHI: In a bid to help those fleeing from crisis-hit Myanmar to the Northeastern state of Mizoram, Mizo National Front MP K Vanlalvena sought the Centre s intervention for the restoration of peace in Myanmar.
The Minister raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha in line with the recent Ministry of Home Affairs MHA directives that have instructed the four Northeastern states to block the entry of those fleeing from Myanmar.
