Gophers Women s Gymnastics Compete at NCAA Championships in Fort Worth

Kelly Hagenson Gophersports.com The Minnesota Golden Gophers women’s gymnastics team is in the NCAA Championship semifinals for just the fifth time in program history as they look to make history by advancing to their first NCAA Finals and see if one of a trio of individual Gophers can bring home just the second individual NCAA Championship in program history. The quest for all of it begins Friday afternoon. The Gophers will compete in the first session of the eight team NCAA semifinals. 8th seeded Minnesota will join #1 Florida, #4 Michigan and #5 California with the top two teams advancing to the team finals Saturday afternoon. The evening session will feature #2 Oklahoma, #3 LSU, #6 Utah and #7 Alabama.

Denver’s Lynnzee Brown triggered the rise of the Pioneers’ program and will be competing for the all-around title. Michigan’s Sierra Brooks, LSU’s Haleigh Bryant, Minnesota’s Mya Hooten, Alabama’s Luisa Blanco, Utah’s Cristal Isa and Cal’s Kyana George each are vital contributors on title-contending teams. Kelly Hagenson The Minnesota Golden Gophers came down to needing a great performance on their best event to leapfrog Denver to earn a berth into the NCAA Championship meet last Saturday. They got it and finished in second place in the Athens Regional and clinched one of eight spots in the NCAA Championship meet in Fort Worth, Texas in two weeks. It will be only Minnesota’s second ever berth into the NCAA Championship meet with the other time coming in 2016. Minnesota finished first in their regional prelims group on Friday recording a score of 197.625 tied for the third highest in program history. They and Denver advanced to the region final on Saturday along with #1 Florida and North Carolina State.
