In poll-bound Tamil Nadu, Palaniswami govt announces free 2GB internet data for government college students PTI Photo Chennai: In poll-bound Tamil Nadu, free internet data cards will be distributed to over 9.69 lakh students of Government colleges to facilitate attending online classes till April. Following the outbreak of the global novel coronavirus pandemic, classes are being held online for students. On Sunday, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced that 2GB internet data would be given free daily till April for students studying in Government and Government-aided arts, science, polytechnic and engineering colleges. Besides, the facility would be extended to students who are enrolled on scholarship in self-financing colleges.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami laid foundation for the project virtually on Friday. According to an official source, the building will be ready for occupancy in 18 months. With a total built up area of 2.66 lakh sq.ft., it will have different modules of space to be rented out to IT companies in the small and medium-scale sector. The ₹114.16-crore project executed by the Public Works Department targets small-scale companies that will get the SEZ benefit by taking space on rent at the building. The Elcot will rent out warm shells, providing basic facilities. It will take care of the building maintenance.
