Baylor law professor to tackle KISD diversity issues

A Baylor School of Law professor visited the Killeen Independent School District school board last week to provide an update on the district’s newly founded Diversity and Inclusion Committee’s plans for the future. KISD Superintendent John Craft told the board at its April 27 meeting that he is particularly excited about the committee’s work. “We will continue to become even more diverse as we grow, but there is always room for improvement,” Craft said. The new committee was created in September of 2020. 2 seats up for grabs on Killeen school board

In two short weeks, the school board could find itself with two new voices of influence if voters show up to the polls in the upcoming May 1 election. Four people are running for two seats on the KISD board of trustees. Lan Carter is running against incumbent board President JoAnn Purser for the Place 7 school board seat. Riakos “Rock” Adams is taking on Cullen Mills for the Place 6 seat, currently held by board member Minerva Trujillo, who is not running for reelection.
