A New Date For Groundbreaking Ceremony
According to the event page on Facebook, the Preston Veterans Home groundbreaking will now be held on
Monday, August 9th at 10 a.m.
Initially, the ceremony was set for Thursday, August 19th. It has since been moved to Monday, August 9th.

The public is invited to a celebration after the groundbreaking as well in Preston.
According to the Preston, MN Veterans Home Support s Facebook Page, the Preston Veterans Organizations and The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce are inviting the public to join them for a light lunch and celebration following the Groundbreaking Ceremony. It will be at The Club around 11:30 a.m. and is sponsored by The Club - Bar and Veterans Organizations and The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce.

Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria, said the bill focuses on good governance, eliminating waste, promoting fair and free elections, and advancing support for Minnesota veterans.
He added the bill contains comprehensive funding for the two-year state government budget, which highlights the implementation of government efficiencies to rein in spending while continuing to function at its highest capacity. Ingebrigtsen said it also provides improvements to election security that will increase integrity and transparency in Minnesota elections.
“Senate Republicans are committed to ensuring that government services are delivered as efficiently and effectively as possible,” Ingebrigtsen said in a news release. “This budget ensures that Minnesota’s state government lives within its means while also focusing on election integrity, data protection.”

(FOX 9) - Sen. Amy Klobuchar stopped by the Minneapolis Veterans Home campus Sunday to call for federal funding for veterans’ homes hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
That funding is part of the American Rescue Plan Act, which includes $80 million in federal funding that will go towards helping homes buy PPE, rollout vaccines and pay overtime costs to staff during the pandemic.
That money, and $32 million in state funding, will help the VA build three new veterans homes in Montevideo, Bemidji and Preston, Minnesota.

SILVER BAY, Minn. – More than 100 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given out to help protect employees and residents.
Dozens of residents and staff at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay rolled up their sleeves to be some of the first to receive COVID-19 vaccines.
“I am happy I got it,” said Frank Stella, an army veteran and resident of the home. “I feel good.”
Stella had covid earlier this year.
