Deputies apprehend murder suspect
A murder suspect wanted in Van Buren Township has been apprehended by authorities in Monroe County, according to a press release issued by the Monroe County Sheriff s Office.
Sheriff s deputies along with troopers from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post reportedly received word late Sunday night that the suspect was possibly in the area of Colf Road in Exeter Township. Just after 12:30 a.m. Monday morning, Deputy Steven Schmidt located the suspect inside a vehicle on Martinsville Road in Exeter.
Schmidt and state troopers reportedly took the suspect into custody without further incident. The suspect was turned over to members of the Van Buren Township Police Department.
In recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention month, the Michigan State Police Monroe post will sponsor an event in honor of survivors of sexual assault.
Billed as Purses with a Purpose, the post is seeking donations of new or gently used purses, bags or totes that are filled with toiletries, hand sanitizer, masks and any other comfort items.
Donations will be accepted at the post s location at 300 Jones Ave. on Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The donations will be distributed to survivors through Family Counseling and Shelter Services of Monroe County.
The Monroe post asks that all members of the community who wish to donate adhere to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services orders in effect by wearing a mask and social distancing during the event.
Raisin Twp., MI – The investigation continues into the death of 30-year-old Jessica Fox, an Adrian resident who was reported missing in March and later found in the River Raisin near Tecumseh.
She was last seen alive on March 21st in Tecumseh, and was reported missing to the Michigan State Police Monroe Post. Fox was found April 8th.
MSP Detective/Sgt. Larry Rothman told WLEN News Friday that they are following leads and that the investigation into her death is ongoing. As of Friday morning, there was also no definitive cause of death, according to Rothman.

Deputy, firefighter injured in crash responding to same emergency call

MONROE COUNTY, MI – A Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy and a Monroe Township firefighter were both injured Friday morning when they crashed into each other way on the way to the same emergency call.
The crash, involving a police SUV and a pickup, occurred at 7:48 a.m. Friday, March 12 at the intersection of S. Dixie Highway and E. Dunbar Road in Monroe Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The initial investigation indicates the deputy, responding to an emergency, was going west on E. Dunbar Road when she was stuck at the intersection by a truck, driven by the firefighter, going south of S. Dixie Highway, police said.
