In recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention month, the Michigan State Police Monroe post will sponsor an event in honor of survivors of sexual assault.
Billed as Purses with a Purpose, the post is seeking donations of new or gently used purses, bags or totes that are filled with toiletries, hand sanitizer, masks and any other comfort items.
Donations will be accepted at the post s location at 300 Jones Ave. on Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The donations will be distributed to survivors through Family Counseling and Shelter Services of Monroe County.
The Monroe post asks that all members of the community who wish to donate adhere to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services orders in effect by wearing a mask and social distancing during the event.
