Commissioners approved two exceptions to the county s hiring freeze. The board granted a request by undersheriff Jason Bingaman’s for a typist/clerk. The position pays about $57,000 per year, including benefits. Commissioners also OK d a freeze-exception for the position of deputy probate register position, which handles personal-protective orders for all four courts. The opening is the result of Amanda Himes moving to a position in district court.
The board approved the $8,900 purchase of a mobile/video recording system for animal control officer Greg Musser and his vehicle.

New Lake Michigan park in Muskegon County gets final approval of $5M grant

MUSKEGON, MI – Development of a new 214-acre park on Lake Michigan in Norton Shores is moving forward with final approval of $5 million in state funding.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has given her approval of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund grant that was approved by the Legislature last month.
The money will allow for the purchase from Nugent Sand of 214 acres of property off Lincoln Street that includes an inland lake. The county will open the first phase of the park, called Dune Harbor Park, later this year.
