‘Enhanced’ risk of severe storms from Little Rock to Memphis on Wednesday, with storms lingering through weekend in South Matthew Cappucci

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected across much of the South over the next few days, with the most widespread and intense activity anticipated Wednesday afternoon and evening in parts of the lower Mississippi Valley and Ozarks. Damaging winds, some hail and even a few tornadoes are possible from East Texas to the Mississippi-Alabama border while the threat extends north through much of Missouri. Meteorologists outlined a Level 3 (out of 5) “enhanced risk” for severe weather, highlighting cities such as Memphis, Little Rock and Jackson, Miss., as areas to watch. Tornado watches were hoisted for much of the region by early afternoon.
