POPLARVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) Pearl River Community College goalkeeper John Bowman is turning in a shutout when it comes to weekly Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference awards.
For a second consecutive week, the sophomore has been named MACCC âGoalkeeper of the Week.â
Bowman was a big reason why the Wildcats won a pair of games and broke into the National Junior College Athletic Associationâs rankings at No. 18.

POPLARVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) For the fourth time this baseball season, Landon Gartman has been named Mississippiâs best junior college pitcher.
Earlier this week, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced that the Wildcatsâ right-hander had been named the leagueâs âPitcher of the Week.â
Longtime Ocean Springs school chief Allen Curry dies at 86

OCEAN SPRINGS, Mississippi Allen Curry, who served a remarkable 20 years as the Ocean Springs school superintendent and oversaw the greatest period of growth in the district’s history, died Saturday at the age of 86.
A native of Jackson County, Curry began his career in education at Vancleave High School, but in 1962 he moved to Ocean Springs to become the first principal of Ocean Springs Junior High, housed in what is now the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Arts Center.
From there he would work his way up the ladder, serving as a principal at all levels, including principal of Ocean Springs High School, before moving to the central office as an assistant superintendent under then-superintendent N.E. Taconi.

CLINTON, Miss. (WDAM) – Daisha Bradford scored a team-high 25 points and as No. 1 Jones College ran away from Louisiana State University-Eunice, 100-74, Wednesday at A.E. Wood Coliseum in the semifinals of the Region XXIII women’s basketball tournament.

Before Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann finished his post-legislative session press conference on April 1, education advocates and politicos rapidly fired off texts to one another and to reporters, opining about an assertion he made.
“This year education had its best year since, probably since William Winter,” Hosemann said early in the press conference.
Hosemann was harkening back to the 1982 session, when former Gov. William Winter ushered one of the state’s most transformative legislative education packages. It increased teacher pay, established public kindergarten and compulsory school attendance, and created a statewide testing program for performance-based accreditation of public schools.
