Cllr Cooper said he had taken the decision due to growing work and party commitments.
He said it had been a massive honour to represent the people of the Foyleside District over the past ten years. I have decided to step down from council after ten years as my workload has increased significantly through my own tourism business, a new heritage project I am co-ordinating and other responsibilities I am working on for Sinn Féin, he said.
Derry residents angry over placement of criminals in city centre bail accommodation
The pandemic has led to an increase in demand for temporary accommodation for offenders

People living in Derry have expressed growing concern about the placement of criminals in temporary accommodation around the city.
The Derry News has learned that in one case a ‘notorious’ paedophile was placed in a street just doors away from young families.
Other violent offenders from different parts of Northern Ireland have been granted court bail to reside in B&Bs and hostels in the city.
Residents are ‘outraged’ and have questioned whether risk assessments were carried out prior to these placements.

Men s Action Network joins forces with the Housing Executive for initiative

A Derry support group for men has launched a new project in conjunction with the Housing Executive.
The WORTH project being managed by Men s Action Network (MAN) will help and offer signposting to men on a wide variety of issues in their lives.
The initiative has been welcomed by local Sinn Fein councillor Mickey Cooper.
“This is an excellent initiative and I would like to congratulate everyone involved,” he said.
“Its very important that we offer as much support as possible to men who have suffered from Coercive Control, physical or sexual abuse and financial or digital abuse.
