A young woman from the eastern suburbs who secured a conviction against a former friend who raped her at a party says the court process is traumatising and Australia still has a culture of blaming the victim.
In a week where the national focus was on former political staffer Brittany Higgins, who was allegedly raped by a colleague at Parliament House two years ago, Elena Brown (not her real name) was reliving her own ordeal after it was reported in the media last weekend.

After the lack of action at a dangerous crossing in Kanturk was highlighted in last week s edition of The Corkman, there s been a flurry of activity at and about the site since then.
According to Councillor John Paul O Shea, who raised the dangers of the pedestrian crossing at Dún an Óir on the Newmarket road at a recent meeting of Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Council, the health-and-safety officer for the developer was on the scene on Thursday. The developer s safety officer visited the pedestrian crossing on Thursday and immediately arranged for the lights to be covered as I suggested at the recent meeting, said Cllr O Shea.
