Mavericks fall to Nighthawks on Opening Day The Colorado Mesa University (CMU) baseball team opened their season with a loss to the Northwest Nazarene(NNU) Nighthawks 18-6.  With the Mavericks down 16-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, junior first baseman Nolan Walker got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded scoring sophomore center fielder Tanner Garner. The bases would then be loaded for junior catcher Spencer Bramwell.  On the first pitch of his at bat Bramwell liked the pitch that he saw and drove it over the left center field wall. This put four more runs on the board for CMU,making it a ten run ball game at 16-6. Bramwell went 1-4 on the day.

Mavericks Fall to Griffins The Colorado Mesa University (CMU) women’s basketball team found themselves in troubled territory tonight by having 23 personal fouls in loss to the Westminster Griffins. The Mavericks had to make adjustments to their game plan due to senior guard Kylyn Rigsby and redshirt sophomore Natalie Bartle drawing fouls early on. The Mavericks would ended up losing 64-61. “They weren’t guarding three of our girls and that was it. They were guarding Ky and they were guardian Kelsey and they were just baiting everyone else to shoot it and they weren’t comfortable taking the shot,” Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Taylor Wagner said.

Menzies’ Moment Menzies’ Moment Ethan Menzies made a huge jump from his freshman to sophomore campaign as he leads the Mavericks in both points and rebounds. One must have the next man up mentality in sports because you never know when your number has been called.  Colorado Mesa University (CMU) lost nine of its players from last year due to graduations, opt-outs or injuries. Mavericks win big in Lakewood Mavericks win big in Lakewood Senior s Kylyn Rigsby and Kelsey Siemons each recorded a double-double as the Mavericks pick up a win in Lakewood, Colo. The Mavericks finish their road trip on a high note as they beat Colorado Christian University (CCU) 67-39.   Senior forward Kelsey Siemons led the team in scoring with 17 points, and she shot four for seven from three. Siemons also finished the game with a double-double as she grabbed 11 rebounds in the contest.   Senior guard Kylyn Rigsby also registered a double-double in the game as she scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
