LOCAL NEWS | JUNE 1, 2021June 1, 2021 in News A “no mask” policy begins today within the Mifflin County School District.  Effective at 7:00 am today (June 1 st), students, employees and visitors will no longer be required to wear a face covering while on school district property regardless of vaccination status.   Giant Eagle, Inc. has issued a voluntarily recall of Chicken Street Taco Kits due to the possibility the product may contain an undeclared egg allergen. Even those who have already voted must send in a new ballot May 13, 2021 LEWISTOWN A clerical error in the Mifflin County Elections Department has necessitated that new ballots be printed and distributed to Democratic Mail-in voters in Mifflin County. According to a press release from Mifflin County Commissioner Kevin Kodish, John E. Knepp II cross-filed on both the Republican and Democratic tickets for a seat on the Mifflin County School Board. The first set of Democratic ballots printed failed to include Knepp on the ballots. “It is an extremely unfortunate error by our office, and the only way to fix it is to reprint all the Democratic ballots and distribute them immediately to all those mail-in voters who received the incorrect versions,” said James Conway, Mifflin County Elections Director.

LOCAL NEWS | MAY 11, 2021May 11, 2021 in News As of Monday, there are four (4) active positive COVID-19 cases in the Mifflin County School District.  Officials sent a letter to parents yesterday regarding COVID-19 and the Wolf Administration’s plan to lift COVID restrictions on May 31 st.   The school district plans to notify parents of future plans upon receiving information from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.  The hope is to obtain the information as soon as possible to help students and parents plan and prepare for commencement, which is scheduled for Thursday, June 3rd at 6:00 pm.   In addition to proposed constitutional amendment questions, the May 18th primary election ballot features a referendum regarding low-interest loans for municipal fire and ambulance companies.  The Commonwealth already has a loan program in place that was established in 1976 to provide funding support for volunteer emergency response organizations. Lewistown resident announces candidacy for school board Apr 14, 2021 LEWISTOWN Diane Stewart has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Mifflin County School District’s Board of Directors. Stewart, born and raised in Lewistown, graduated in 1977 from Lewistown Area High School and attended Shippensburg University where she earned her teaching certificate and her principal’s certificate. She has also earned a Master’s of Education degree from Wilkes University. Stewart began working for MCSD in 1981 and retired from the school district in 2019. Over those years, she was a classroom teacher in grades 3, 5, 6, 7, remediated students in grades 4, 6, 9, 11, and worked with high school seniors from Kish, Chief Logan, Lewistown, and the vo-tech (currently The Academy) through an on-the-job training program by placing seniors in the workforce.
