Educational institutions to reopen if situation improves in February: PM
Reiterating her call to countrymen to maintain health guidelines properly to contain COVID-19, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the government would reopen the educational institutions if the Coronvirus situation improves in February.
“. . . We would watch the situation in February. If the state in February remains well then we will reopen the educational institutions on a limited scale,” she said.
The premier was addressing the results handover and publishing ceremony of HSC and equivalent examinations at International Mother Language Institute, joining virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban here this morning.

Transgender people have expressed joy and gratitude after getting homes as a gift from the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Some 20 members of the transgender community, also known as Hijra, have received rooms at Hatikumrul in Sirajganj on Friday as part of the government’s initiative to rehabilitate the homeless and landless people during the Mujib Barsho, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
This was part of the rehabilitation campaign for the vulnerable people under the Asrayan Prokolpo’s second phase under which 3,715 families were provided shelters in 743 barracks at 36 upazilas in 21 districts during the ‘Mujib Year’.
Govt to decide on opening educational institutions assessing situation: Dipu Moni

DHAKA, Jan 24, 2021 (BSS) – Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said decision of reopening country’s educational institutions will be taken after analysing the pandemic situation and consulting with the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 after February 4.
“Though we have given directives to educational institutions to take preparations for resuming class by February 4 … It depends on the overall pandemic situation and the recommendations of National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19,” she said.
She made the remarks while addressing a discussion virtually titled ‘Recover and Revitalize Education for Covid-19 Generation’ at the conference room of Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU).

Education Minister Dipu Moni revealed the plan at a virtual event to mark the International Day of Education on Sunday after briefing parliament about the guidelines earlier in the day.
At the event, she said the government has ordered the educational institutions to complete the preparation for in-person lessons within Feb 4, attaching maximum priority to the health of the students, teachers and support staff so that they can reopen anytime amid the outbreak.
