Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government has been working to ensure that no language across the world faces extinction. We have established the International Mother Language Institute so that other languages in the world can be preserved. We have taken the measure to make sure that no language faces extinction and their existence can come out, she said.
The prime minister said this while opening the four-day programmes marking the Shaheed Dibash and the International Mother Language Day, 2021 and distributing the International Mother Language Day Award, 2021, at the International Mother Language Institute (IMLI), joining virtually from her official residence the Gono Bhaban in the capital.

The decision was finalised in a meeting to coordinate the work at the Prime Minister s Office in Dhaka on Thursday.
About 70,000 landless and homeless families across the country got their houses along with 2 decimal pieces of land under the Ashrayan-2 project on Jan 23.
The government on Thursday ordered the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and other field-level officials to complete the work to construct 50,000 more houses in the second phase by Apr 7.

Two prosecution witnesses, including a bench reader of Bangladesh Supreme Court, today gave their depositions before a Dhaka court in a money laundering case filed against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and 10 others.
The witnesses are, SC Bench Reader Mahbub Hossain and Dhaka Bank s Savar EPZ Branch Manager Abu Zahid Ansary.
Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of the Special Judge s Court-4 of Dhaka recorded the statements of the witnesses.
But the defence declined to cross-examine the witnesses as they did not mention their clients names in the statements.
