More than 120 crews from across the UK and further afield have entered this year’s Grampian Forest Rally, which takes place at Crathes on August 14. Rally secretary Gordon Ritchie said the “challenges” of organising an event during the ongoing pandemic had left the club with no othe choice.

ONE of the main activities after the formation of Ilkley & District Motor Club in 1910 were the Regularity Trials. These tested the ability of the rider to find a certain check and also to make sure that they arrived on time. Most of these Trials were long distance events mostly over 100 miles, with often an overnight stop either at the coast, such as Whitby or in the Lake District. These events not only tested the ability of the riders but also the reliability of the motor cycles and later cars. The time between checks allowed for a speed limit of 20 m.p.h. and marks were deducted for early or late arrival at a check.

The historic track between Darlington and Northallerton will kick the delayed season off in just a month’s time when the British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC) hosts a weekend of action on Saturday and Sunday, May 15 and 16. However, this is the weekend before the Government’s planned next phase of lockdown easing on May 17, so it means that no spectators will be allowed.
