At the time the NMI was one of the six districts of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands which was administered by the U.S. The other districts were Palau, the Marshall Islands, Ponape (Pohnpei), Truk (Chuuk) and Yap. The TT governmentâs chief executive was the American high commissioner who was an appointee of the U.S. president. The high commissioner, in turn, appointed the administrator of each district. The TTâs legislative branch was the bicameral Congress of Micronesia, but each district also had their own district legislatures. The Marianas District, moreover, had mayors, municipal councils, village or district commissioners on top of the TT governmentâs various departments, offices and other agencies.

Sweeping program making final rounds in district
Winter is finally over, and the street sweeper will soon be making its final rounds for the season in the District of Elkford.
This year, the District’s Public Works Department is asking everyone to please have all debris off your lawn and onto the road by May 17.
Here’s how you can help the sweeper do its job safely and efficiently:
Avoid placing branches or large piles of leaves/grass on the road.
Place debris approximately one vehicle width from the curb and avoid dispersing it into the centre lane of the road.

BEAUFORT: The District Public Works Department will do immediate maintenance and upgrading of four sections of the road in Kg Suasa, as well as another two sections of the road in Kg Bangkalalak, as highlighted in the Daily Express recently.

Lumadan Assemblyman Haji Ruslan Muharam, said the roads in both these villages need elevating by up to one metre so it would not be easily submerged by flood waters, especially during this prolonged rainy season.
