GUWAHATI: The efficiency of solar vaccine storages for preserving Covid vaccines in the most inaccessible locations of Assam will be tested during the nationwide polio vaccination drive on January 31.
Of the 32 solar vaccine stores that have been developed in the hilly terrain and chars (sand bars) in the riverine areas of the state, 25 have been installed in 2019-20. The Centre has approved another four solar cold storages for Assam.
Health officials said before the Covid vaccination drive is rolled out for the masses with procurement of vaccine doses in large amounts in the days to come, the efficacy of these solar stores is going to be crucial for carrying out the Covid vaccination in these inaccessible locations.

The Health Department has made arrangements to receive and store Covishield vaccine, the roll-out of which will begin across the country on January 16.
Coimbatore, one of the 10 Regional Vaccine Stores in Tamil Nadu, will receive 73,200 doses of the vaccine.
The doses will be distributed to District Vaccine Stores in Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and the Nilgiris districts. All the districts have conducted dry runs for the vaccination drive.
Coimbatore district has been allotted 40,600 doses of the vaccine, the highest in the region. The district has 107 cold chain points (CCPs).

Today is a historical day in the history of modern medicine as we are able to come out with a vaccine within a span of 10 months. From the Government of India, our State Telangana has received 3.64 Lakh doses of Covishield Vaccine today, Dr.Srinivas Rao, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare speaking told ANI. We are going to preserve this Vaccine in the State Vaccine Store. Where it will be maintained at low temperatures. Today evening we are going to supply the vaccine to District Vaccine Stores, from there it will go to the cold chain points located in our all primary health Centre and community health centres, he said.
