Raipur, April 7 : Three days after the deadly attack on security forces in Chhattisgarh s Bijapur district, the Maoists in a communique has declared that the missing CRPF commando is in their safe custody and they are ready to release him only after an interlocutor will be appointed to talk to them.
Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) also made it clear that the CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) commando Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, who went missing after the April 3 attack, will be in safe custody till the process of appointing an interlocutor is completed.
Twenty-two personnel from various security forces like the
Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the Central Reserve Police Force, its Bastariya battalion and those from the District Reserve Guard and STF of the Chattisgarh Police were killed in the ambush that took place along the Bijapur-Sukma border on Saturday.
Thirty-one jawans were injured while
CoBRA commando Rakeshwar Singh Minhas, belonging to its 210th battalion, went missing after the gunfight and was stated to be taken hostage by the Naxalites.
The security forces had claimed that they recovered the body of a female Maoist from the spot. Signed by the spokesperson of the DSZC, Vikalp, the statement said the government should declare the name of some mediators for the release of the captured jawan .

Relatives of a CoBRA commando held hostage by Naxals after a recent gun battle with security forces in Chhattisgarh s Bijapur district blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway on Wednesday, demanding an assurance from the government for his safe release. He is the responsibility of the government, which should take immediate action to ensure his safe return to us. We want the government to inform us about the action it is taking for his release, Meenu, wife of abducted jawan Rakeshwar Singh Minhas, said in a fervent appeal from the protest site.

A day ago, the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) released a statement where it demanded that the State government announce a mediator for the release of the commando.
Refusing to divulge details on the negotiation, a senior police official said that the commando would be brought back soon.
The abducted commando, identified as Rakeshwar Singh Minhas, belongs to the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) unit of the CRPF, which is specially trained for operations in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas.
