Taking suo moto cognizance of the incident, a division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni admonished the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), observing that lives of citizens are not "so cheap that they can be left to die in such incidents".

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 10 (ANI): At least nine people were killed and eight others injured after a residential structure collapsed in New Collector compound, Malad West of Mumbai late on Wednesday night, informed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
As per the BMC, the collapse engulfed a nearby residential structure. It also affected another residential structure in the area that is now in a dangerous condition , the municipal corporation said. Residents from affected structures are being evacuated.
Search and rescue operation for trapped people is underway. The injured persons have been shifted to BDBA hospital.
At least 11 people including nine members of a family were killed as a two-storied residential building collapsed on an adjoining structure in Malad West, Mumbai. According to reports, death toll may rise as several more people are feared to be trapped beneath the rubble. The local residents said that the deadly incident took place due to heavy rain. The massive downpour also caused waterlogging in the low-lying areas of the city. It halted the train service as well as vehicular movement on Mumbai roads.
