MFA Council to vote for composition of national competitions for 2021-22 season

The Malta Football Association is set to decide the composition of the national competitions for season 2021-22 when the Council convenes on Tuesday. In the past few weeks, there has been a lot of discussion on how the national competitions will look next season following the Malta FA Executive Committee decision to bring to an early end this year’s competitions following the authorities’ reluctance of lifting the legal notice that banned organised sport before the end of April due to COVID-19. As things stand at the moment, the Challenge League is the only competition that was abandoned after it failed to reach the 75 per cent threshold of matches scheduled to be played, as requested by the MFA regulations, to allow the classification to stand when the championship was terminated.

PDSC in favour of MFA proposed format for Premier League for 2021-22 season

The Premier League Standing Committee are in favour of the format being proposed by the Malta Football Association on the composition of the top-flight for the 2021-22 season. The 2020-21 season was brought to a halt earlier than expected by the Malta Football Association last month after the authorities opted against lifting the Legal Notice that banned all organised sport. The Malta FA Executive Committee earlier this month discussed a number of proposals on formats for the Premier League, the Challenge League and the National Amateur League. These proposals will be discussed and voted for approvals during the next MFA Council, which has yet to be given a scheduled date.

MFA EXCO step up fight against money laundering and bad practices in football

The Malta Football Association Executive Committee has approved reforms on good governance both at the association as well as club level, president Bjorn Vassallo told a news conference pm Thursday. Vassallo said that good governance has been at the forefront of his electoral mandate and also ranks high on the association’s new strategy that was unveiled earlier this year. The MFA chief said that during the meeting the Malta FA Executive Committee discussed the proposal of appointing an advisory board that will tackle the fight against money laundering in football. Ħamrun Spartans set for pre-season training camp in Austria

Ħamrun Spartans are planning to take the team to a training camp in Austria as part of their preparations for the new season, club president Joseph Portelli announced on Thursday. The Spartans are currently on cloud nine at the moment after they were declared as the new league champions after the 2020-21 season was brought to a halt by the Malta FA Executive Committee due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the club’s top hierarchy have already started their preparations for the new season and Portelli announced that they are planning to send the team to a training camp abroad.
