Worrying rise in crime in Fordingbridge

Worrying rise in crime in Fordingbridge | Salisbury Journal

FORDINGBRIDGE councillors have expressed concerns over a “worrying” increase in crime. Fordingbridge Town Council at its annual meeting discussed a police report giving 12 month comparisons of May 2019 to 2020 and May 2020 to 2021. It showed an increase of 68 in the total number of crimes which were up from 318 to 386. The meeting heard there had been an increase in violent, theft and drugs offences. What the mayor and deputy mayor said Mayor Edward Hale said: “It is rather depressing, isn’t it? A few of the categories have come down slightly but three categories have gone up 50 per cent which is very worrying.”

Fordingbridge Town Hall revamp plans spark concerns

COUNCILLORS hope to push ahead with plans to revamp the town hall in Fordingbridge despite initial concerns raised by a conservation officer. Fordingbridge Town Council is looking to reconfigure the town hall building to accommodate council and tourist information centre staff. Currently, the tourist information staff are based in Kings Yard. The council is in the process of seeking pre-application advice from New Forest District Council. A meeting of the town council last week was told a conservation officer had raised concerns over the heritage report provided, which needed further detail. The officer was concerned over the “cumulative effect” of the proposed work and the change to the character of the building. They suggested extending out the rear of the building as an alternative.
