Ethics drive new rules for council
NEW rules will be written for Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to self-regulate against corruption among councillors and officers and ensure that the “highest standards” are followed when contractors are hired, and goods and services bought.
In the first of two moves adopted by councillors last week, a “lobbying policy” will be drawn up to guide councillors and officers and “maintain transparency and accountability” when decisions are made.
The second move was to ensure that contractors and consultants meet “the highest standards of social, ethical and sustainable business practices”.
Changes to the existing procurement policy must also place “greater weight” on dealing with small to medium sized businesses based on the peninsula.
Gov. Murphy visits Lakewood vaccination clinic on pandemic anniversary

Phil Murphy visited a COVID-19 vaccination site here Friday to cheer on those receiving and administering shots, as the nation continued to observe the one-year anniversary of the the World Health Organization s declaring the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. Lakewood is one of the most important communities in our state, said Murphy, visiting the Center for Health Education, Medicine and Dentistry, joined by state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli. We ve had a great relationship with its elected officials, local leaders from faith communities and advocates, said Murphy, marking his first official visit to the township since taking office. According to findings from a recent Royal Horticultural Society survey of 2056 UK adults, carried out by YouGov, and data from a 2015 survey carried out by Ipsos Mori, plant cover in front gardens has increased by almost 40 square miles in just five years, while more than one million UK front gardens now contain nothing but greenery.
