Luke Phibion Masamvu, the Zimbabwean lawmaker who represented Mutasa North constituency has died from Covid-19.
The former legislator who was a well-known businessman in Marondera, Bindura and Manicaland Province, died on Saturday, January 3o, at the age of 62 and left behind 79 children and 12 wives.
Mourners are gathered at the family’s Airedale Farm along the Rusape-Nyanga Highway. However, only 30 people are allowed to gather for the funeral Monday, 1 February, due to the Covid-19 lockdown regulations.
Family spokesperson and brother to the late businessman, John Masamvu told state media Iharare, that the family is devastated by the loss.
John said; “It is a very sad day for the entire Masamvu family. We have lost a big family man who also served his country in Parliament.

The 81-year-old passed away at his farm near Marondera town in the Mashonaland East province.
David Musabayana, Zimbabwe’s deputy foreign affairs minister, also confirmed Chigwedere’s death and extended condolences to the family.
An eminent historian, Chigwedere was a traditional chief in his native area in Mashonaland East and previously served as governor of the province.
“The educator, the historian, rest in power former education minister Aeneas Chigwedere,” Elias Mambo, publisher of news outlet Zim Morning Post, said on Twitter.
The pandemic has claimed the lives of several politicians in Zimbabwe, including Foreign Minister Sibusiso Moyo, who died of COVID-19 complications earlier this week.

A FORMER Zanu PF MP for Mutasa North in Manicaland province, Luke Masamvu, died Saturday in Harare from Covid-19.
He was 62.
According to the state media, Masamvu, who was a prominent businessman in Manicaland and Marondera Town, leaves behind 12 wives and 79 children.
He was born in Nyanga.

Former Education Minister and Mashonaland East Governor Cde Aeneas Chigwedere, who succumbed to Covid-19 on January 22, was buried yesterday at his farm in Marondera.
Soon after his death, President and First Secretary of Zanu PF, Cde Mnangagwa, conferred a Liberation Hero Status on the late historian and educationist.
His burial yesterday was conducted under strict Covid-19 protocols.
Cde Chigwedere’s son Casper described his father as a strong man.
“He had a very strong character and he was controversial,” he said. “He had an independent mind, he was not a yes man. You could easily feel his presence when he arrived. He was a great follower of his favourite subject of History.

Transport minister Joel Biggie Matiza died aged 61, on January 22, two days after Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo, 61, succumbed to Covid-19 early on Wednesday.
Covid-19, this month, also claimed the lives of Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ellen Gwaradzimba and military commander, Brigadier-General Collin Moyo (Retired), who were buried at the national shrine.
