Rehabilitation of Child Brides Vital
December 24, 2020
Child marriages have always been a challenge in many Zimbabwean communities. Gender inequality, poverty, family pressure, gender-based violence (GBV) and early marriage have kept girls from completing school in Zimbabwe, and this has had lasting effects.
The lockdown which was enforced to reduce the spread on Covid-19 at the end of March this year, was “pregnant” with its own challenges, worsening the already simmering situation for some vulnerable girls.
For example, over 400 girls from four districts in Manicaland, East of Zimbabwe dropped out of school altogether owing to pregnancy, marriage, financial challenges and illness when schools reopened in October this year.

Ndemera Remembered As Just a Fine Gentleman. . .
December 24, 2020
That was Tendai “Tindo” Ndemera for you.
The veteran sports journalist, who passed away on Tuesday morning after a long illness and will be buried tomorrow at Zororo Memorial Park along Seke Road, was large-than-life character who always had the house in endless stitches of laughter with his vast story-telling antics.
The tale about Zimbabwe football legend Shaya predicting a bright future for him happened back in 1975 when Ndemera, then a promising Dynamos Under-18 midfielder, was included, together with three other youth players Edward “Madhobha” Katsvere, Eric “Flashish” Aisam and Boniface “Keegan” Makuruzo to play together with seasoned players like Shaya, Ernest “Nyamuzihwa” Kamba, Shaw “Kojak” Handriade and Simon “Baba Charle” Sachiti in a charity match against Marondera side Proton Stars at Rudhaka Stadium.
Marondera Town House
THE Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T plans to tighten its grip at Marondera Town Council by electing Dominic Matangira the deputy mayor of the farming town.
Matangira, who recently attained Alderman status after serving the local authority several years, dumped the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance, a move that shocked his colleagues.
The deputy mayoral post became vacant after the recall of Bornface Tagwireyi by Khupe. He was accused of showing allegiance to Chamisa in the last mayoral elections.
MDC-T provincial administrator Wellington Makonese confirmed that Matangira was poised to be the deputy mayor of the farming town.
“I am aware that the elections will be held on Wednesday (today) and that councillor Matangira is the candidate,” he said.
