The governments of Australia and Japan are funding two major law enforcement developments in the Marshall Islands.
Justice Minister Kessai Note announced during a Nitijela session on Thursday that the two governments are providing assistance that will give law enforcement operations a big boost.
The government of Australia will be providing the Marshall Islands with a new and more sophisticated patrol vessel for patrolling its waters.
As part of Australia s regional patrol boat program, the Australian government provided a patrol vessel to this western Pacific nation in the early 1990s, as well as stationing Royal Australian Navy personnel in Majuro to support maritime surveillance and enforcement action.

Marshall Islands police have destroyed over 635kg of cocaine after the cache of drugs drifted into a remote atoll.
Police said the discovery last week was the largest volume of cocaine to ever wash into the Marshall Islands, which has seen hundreds of kilos of cocaine found near multiple islands over the past two decades. The drug haul has an estimated street value of over US$80 million.

A small boat washed ashore on the Marshall Islands last week carrying 1,400 pounds of cocaine, leaving investigators stumped.
Police on the remote Pacific island nation between the Philippines and Hawaii took possession of the cocaine, which was divided up into 649 1-kilogram bricks and worth about $80 million, after it showed up on a beach at Ailuk Atoll and destroyed it. Police called it the largest drug seizure in the history of the Marshall Islands.
“649 blocks of wrapped cocaine, discovered inside an unmanned boat washed up on our beaches at Ailuk. Police took action in collecting and destroying all packages,” the Marshall Islands Police Department wrote on Facebook, including a photo of officers next to the stacked up drugs and a laughing-crying emoji.
