It’s been a long time 30 years in fact but FBI agent Clarice Starling is back. The role made famous by Jodi Foster in the Oscar-winning movie
The Silence of the Lambs is now being played by Rebecca Breeds in a continuation of Clarice’s story. The show, simply titled
Clarice, premieres tonight at 10 p.m. EST on CBS, but you can still watch it on CBS All Access even if you don’t have cable.
In the show, Clarice is returning to the field as an FBI agent a year after the Buffalo Bill case. She’s charged with solving crimes and saving lives, but she’s also got issues of her own. She’s plagued by flashbacks of Buffalo Bill and Hannibal Lecter (although they can’t show or mention Hannibal because of copyright issues). The young agent also has to deal with her brand her high-profile reputation and an FBI rife with misogyny.
Created by Jenny Lumet (“Rachel Getting Married”) and Alex Kurtzman (the 21st century “Star Trek” TV franchise), “Clarice” is set in 1993, a year after the events in “The Silence of the Lambs.”

Following its series debut last night, CBS has released the first promo for
Clarice’s second episode titled “Ghosts of Highway 20,” featuring the titular FBI agent as she along with the VICAP team takes on a fringe militia group called The Statesmen. Directed by Doug Aarniokoski from a script co-written by Elizabeth J. B. Klaviter and Kenneth Lim, the new episode is set to air on Thursday, February 18, 2021. The Silence of the Lambs. It’s been a year since since the FBI trainee now a graduate of the academy discovered and killed serial killer Buffalo Bill. But he lingers still, impressed on her subconscious like a fossil of the death’s-head moths he placed in his victim’s throats. A symbol of metamorphosis for him, preserved in fever-dream flashes for her.
“I thought it was done,” Clarice says in her West Virginia twang. Subtle notes of Q Lazzarus’ “Goodbye Horses” play over memories of Bill hunched over his sewing machine, stitching human flesh. The song was a standout moment in the 1991 film, but here it’s a shadow. Because this isn’t Buffalo Bill’s story. Or Hannibal Lecter’s. It’s Clarice’s, and it fits a little uncomfortably.
