Premium Content Subscriber only WORKS to restore an 111-year-old pub in the Ipswich CBD have been completed but the focus has now turned to what will fill the historic building. An extension to the Commonwealth Hotel could be on the cards to accommodate a hotelier once again with the current footprint deemed too small to make a modern operation viable. The building, also known as Murphy’s Town Pub, was bought by council-controlled entity Ipswich City Properties in 2014 and was identified as unsafe for occupancy in 2015. Major road reopened following $2M upgrades

She said the council continued to identify roads in need of repairs or upgrades, as well as build new roads to help improve the city’s infrastructure network.

New program to help residents voice council concerns

Premium Content Subscriber only RESIDENTS across Ipswich will soon be given the opportunity to voice their concerns or frustrations in person to a couple of the city’s elected representatives. Division 3 councillors Marnie Doyle and Andrew Fechner are set to appear at local businesses across the region in coming months. The pair will visit multiple sites over a five-week period, including Booval Fair and Ipswich Central Library, as part of council’s ‘Community Matters’ program. Visits to Coles Silkstone, Leichhardt One Mile Community Centre, Riverview Community Centre and Redbank Plaza have also been scheduled. The program will start on June 14, winding up little more than a month later on July 19.
