According to a news release from the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a shots fired call in gated community in a subdivision just outside the Kerrville city limits Monday around 3:41 p.m. Deputies discovered there had been a verbal disturbance that led to two residents – Hanna and Kenneth Brown – pulling guns out and exchanging gunfire. Hanna died. Brown, a 71-year-old retired U.S. Customs Officer, was not injured. The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating the case. No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning. The case will be referred to a Grand Jury.

Details still emerging in argument leads to shooting death

A dispute between neighbors turned deadly on Monday afternoon, leaving a retired Houston police officer dead in a gated community in Kerrville.  Kerr County Sheriff W.R. “Rusty” Hierholzer said his office continues to investigate the shootout between neighbors Mart Hanna and Kenneth Brown. Hanna, who retired from the Houston Police Department, was shot and killed.  Condolences and prayers flooded social media Tuesday and Wednesday following the news that Hanna had died near his home at The Horizon gated community west of Kerrville. According to the sheriff’s office’s press release, “a verbal disturbance” between Hanna and the 71-year-old Brown, a neighbor, “led to both residents pulling guns and exchanging gunfire.” No arrests were made, but Hierholzer said his agency’s findings would be submitted to a grand jury for review. The Texas Rangers are also aiding in the investigation.
