CATAHOULA, La. â A federal judge has denied the St. Martin Parish School Board s request for unitary status in their decades-old desegregation case, and updated the order and the requirements the board must meet - and that update includes the ordered closure of Catahoula Elementary School. The District is ORDERED to close Catahoula Elementary to grades K to 5 beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, Monday s ruling from U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Foote states. Those students should instead be assigned to ELC (Early Learning Center) or SMP (St. Martinville Primary).

Shots fired from squirrel hunters in St. Martinville caused two schools to be temporarily placed on lock down Friday morning.
Schools Superintendent Allen Blanchard says that St. Martinville Sr. High and St. Martinville Primary were placed on lock down after shots were heard near the schools on Main Street.
The St. Martinville Police Department investigated the incident and learned that the shots heard by those in the area were from nearby squirrel hunters.
Blanchard says the all clear has been given by law enforcement and the schools are no longer on lock down.

ST. MARTINVILLE - On Friday morning, two schools in St. Martinville were temporarily placed on lockdown following reports of shots fired in the area.
A representative with the St. Martin Parish School Board confirmed that St. Martinville Primary and St. Martinville Senior High, Main Street campuses that are adjacent to each other, were on lockdown early Friday morning after gunshots were heard in a nearby wooded area.
But officials say the gunshots were likely a result of someone hunting in the woods.
As of 8:45 a.m., the lockdown was lifted and school officials say it was only a precautionary measure.
