At the beginning of the pandemic, comedian and ‘Hardy Buck’, Owen Colgan, moved from Dublin to Belmullet in his home county of Mayo. When Irish Country Living speaks with him, it’s almost one year to the day since the big move.
Referencing Government relocation grants aimed at encouraging people to move from cities to rural towns, announced last week under the Rural Future Plan, Owen jokes he may have to rethink the move.
“I just moved out of Dublin right before lockdown. I saw the Government are on about giving a grant for people to leave the city. The whole city is going to move to Belmullet, so I’ll have to move back then.”

Bittern to Red Hill railway nearing completion
THE Bittern to Red Hill railway is now well in hand. The earthwork has been practically completed to as far as Merricks, and many of the workmen and drays have moved on to the Red Hill end to complete the earthworks there.
This will, without doubt, be the prettiest section of rail way line on the Peninsula, as the country through which it passes is very rich and a large portion of it is under orchard, especially at the Red Hill end.
Besides the picturesque farms and orchards, the railway follows some of the best scenery on this side.

Muji Karim circled the parking lot of his South Burlington hotel three times on Jan. 9 before he finally believed his eyes.
The two cars he had parked between were still there from the night before. His black Mercedes SUV? Gone. He would not be driving home to Medford that day. It was 2020 in overtime, I guess, Karim said.
When police located his vehicle in Burlington, Vermont the next day behind a building on Pine Street, the situation seemed too brazen to be coincidental. It had to be some cruel prank.
For the second time in less than a year, someone had stolen one of Karim s prosthetic legs actually, three of them this time, along with glasses, sunglasses, his son s car seat and other personal effects. In their place, police found tens of thousands of dollars worth of stolen goods, cigarette butts and drug paraphernalia, according to Karim.
