MORGANTON, N.C. (WBTV) - A man was arrested and charged for shooting and killing a homeless personâs emotional support dog.
After receiving tips through social media, Markus Levar Connelly was taken into custody after turning himself into the Burke County Sheriffâs Office.
Connelly is facing charges of two counts of felony cruelty to animal and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Walks through the streets of Morganton always led to people shouting hello to Bennett Deatonâs beloved canine companion, DJ.
But a quick stop at a store Sunday turned tragic when a man pulled a gun on Deaton and DJ, ultimately shooting DJ, police said. DJ died as a result of the gunshot wounds.
A suspect in the shooting turned himself in Tuesday afternoon. Markus Levar Connelly was charged with two counts of felony cruelty to animal and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a Facebook post by the Morganton Department of Public Safety.
