Marcus Performing Arts Center CEO Kendra Whitlock Ingram believes two new initiatives will help the Marcus in its quest to become known as more than a building :
Its new racial equity, diversity and inclusion (REDI) plan, with numerical goals, is designed to make the composition of Marcus staff, performers and volunteers more closely resemble its community, attracting a happy cross-section of Milwaukee County to shows in the renovated Uihlein Hall with center aisles, new seats, increased wheelchair accessibility and enough spiffy HVAC updates to make Dr. Fauci breathe a little more freely.
With former primary tenant Milwaukee Symphony ensconced in its new home, the Marcus has many Uihlein dates to fill. Whitlock Ingram sees this change as Marcus opportunity to become a more active presenter. Over the next five years, expect an increase of arts and culture programming that has traditionally missed the market, primarily because there wasn t a venue to present it, she said

A downtown office building overlooking the Milwaukee River has been sold to a Chicago-area firm that plans to convert it into over 130 apartments.
The eight-story, 82,000-square-foot River Bank Plaza, 740 N. Plankinton Ave., has been acquired by 3L Real Estate, the firm announced. The purchase price was $5.8 million, according to state real estate records.
3L will convert the building into RiverWalk Lofts, a mixed-use residential development featuring amenities such as a rooftop deck and boat slips.
Rock Bottom Brewery will continue to occupy the building s street level. It opened in 1997 and will operate during the renovations on the upper floors.
While the unit mix is still being finalized, RiverWalk Lofts is expected to have over 130 apartments, ranging from studios to three-bedroom units.
