Vaccination clinic held in Little Rock, honors loved ones lost to COVID-19

Fletcher organized a vaccination clinic at Dunbar Community Center to honor her sister who she lost due to complications from the virus.

I knocked on the door, holding a bouquet of bright yellow flowers for the ministerâs daughter. Would she even remember me? The door swung open, and Miss Mathew said. âCome in, come in.â Yes, she remembered.
Miss Mathew was 86 years old and had lived her whole life in this church manse in Scotland. My wife, three sons, and I had attended last Sundayâs worship service of the Free Presbyterian Church, known as the âWee Freesâ and successor to the Seceder Church that my Scottish Lowlander family had belonged to several centuries ago.
But this is a story of biscuits and a bookâvery heavy biscuits and a very old book. Miss Mathewâs parents and siblings were long gone, and she took immense pride in showing me through the house, including the parlor with a grand piano, a white marble mantel over the fireplace, and exquisite vases balancing the pieces of heavy furniture. âI keep it just the way it was,â she said proudly.
THE REACTION to Judith Collinsâ speech to Nationalâs Northern Regional Conference (1/5/21) was always going to be instructive. It would signal just how seriously Nationalâs opponents took both Collins and her race-based politicking. A flat line on the political seismograph would indicate complete indifference: proof that the National Party leaderâs strategy was out of time, and that she, as Leader, was running out of luck. Were the seismographâs needle to flutter, however, National would know that it was on to something.
And flutter it did. Not wildly, admittedly, but enough to register something large and dangerous shifting deep underground. To give the Prime Minister credit, she was careful to let Collinsâ speech pass without comment. While undoubtedly registering the seismic shock, her instincts told her to pretend that she hadnât.
