CHRIS MORELLI cmorelli@lockhaven.com BELLEFONTE As residents of Centre County continue to get the COVID-19 vaccine, Centre County government is doing its part to help. At Tuesday’s Centre County commissioners’ meeting, residents were reminded that rides to COVID-19 vaccination appointments are available, free of charge. “Similarly to how you would call and ask for a ride to a medical appointment … it’s the same process,” said Centre County administrator Margaret Gray. The county will be providing door-to-door service. The Centre County Office of Transportation has a total of 15 handicap-accessible vans for use. “We’re excited for the opportunity to help out those who may not have a funding source for transportation,” said director David Lomison. “Centre County Government and the Board of Commissioners have agreed to provide trips for vaccinations at no cost.”

From Staff Reports BELLEFONTE The Centre County Board of Commissioners has approved the appointment of John C. Franek, Jr. as Deputy County Administrator effective March 22, 2021. Franek brings extensive local government experience to this position. He serves currently as the Code Services Manager for the Centre Region Council of Governments and prior to his employment with the Centre Region COG, Mr. Franek worked for fourteen years with College Township in a variety of capacities including as their Management Analyst with responsibilities spanning across a wide variety of business functions and projects to promote the efficient and effective delivery of services to Township residents.

Centre County Free Testing Center Stays Open Free COVID-19 testing will continue in Centre County, at least for another Month. On Tuesday Morning, the funding for the testing site to remain open was approved. The COVID Testing Center at 1155 Benner Pike was slated to close at the end of this week. Tuesday, the Centre County Commissioners approved extending the contract with the testing service of AMI Healthcare thorough the end of March. Centre Co. Administrator Margaret Gray saying: “So with another extension we’ll change contract from 300 tests a day to 200 a day at cost of $66,000 a week.” The County will continue to use Cares Act COVID Relief Grant money to pay for the testing service, especially with a recent increase in daily COVID cases reported in Centre County. Eventually, its hoped more Vaccinations will decrease the need for testing.

CHRIS MORELLI cmorelli@lockhaven.com BELLEFONTE As positive cases of COVID-19 continue to turn up in Centre County, the county commissioners agreed to extend a contract with AMI Expeditionary Healthcare to operate the walk-in testing clinic at the former Comcast/Xfinity facility down the road from the Nittany Mall. The current agreement with AMI was set to expire on Saturday, Feb. 27. The new agreement will extend the contract an additional month, through Saturday, March 27. However, the number of tests per day will decrease from 300 to 200, according to county administrator Margaret Gray. “That will bring the cost down to an average of approximately $66,000 per week,” Gray explained. “It can actually drop lower than that if our numbers fall in terms of number of people being tested.”
