Centre providing door-to-door service for vaccine | News, Sports, Jobs

CHRIS MORELLI cmorelli@lockhaven.com BELLEFONTE As residents of Centre County continue to get the COVID-19 vaccine, Centre County government is doing its part to help. At Tuesday’s Centre County commissioners’ meeting, residents were reminded that rides to COVID-19 vaccination appointments are available, free of charge. “Similarly to how you would call and ask for a ride to a medical appointment … it’s the same process,” said Centre County administrator Margaret Gray. The county will be providing door-to-door service. The Centre County Office of Transportation has a total of 15 handicap-accessible vans for use. “We’re excited for the opportunity to help out those who may not have a funding source for transportation,” said director David Lomison. “Centre County Government and the Board of Commissioners have agreed to provide trips for vaccinations at no cost.”

Centre County Offering Free Rides to COVID-19 Vaccination Appointments

As more COVID-19 vaccinations become available, Centre County is making sure residents can get to their appointments. The Centre County Office of Transportation will provide free rides to appointments for any county resident eligible to receive the vaccine under the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s distribution plan. “Throughout all phases of the vaccine rollout, the CCOT will provide free rides to those who are eligible to receive a shot and need a ride,” Board of Commissioners Chairman Michael Pipe said in a statement. CCOT has 15 handicap-accessible vans that are available to provide door-to-door service throughout the county. Each van adheres to Centers for Disease Control and DOH guidance on masking and social distancing.
