PNG LEADERS BEAR THE BLAME FOR CRIME: OMBUDSMAN | Pacific Islands Report

PNG LEADERS BEAR THE BLAME FOR CRIME: OMBUDSMAN Submitted by admin on Mon, 04/12/1999 - 00:00 By Phil-Peers Yombon and AAP PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (April 9, 1999 - The National) -Street-level violent crime simply reflects the greed of the nation s leaders, Chief Ombudsman Commissioner Simon Pentanu said yesterday. Mr. Pentanu told the law and order summit here that if the belief system of PNG’s leaders was corrupted or the political system was corrupted, individuals at all levels of society would be corrupted. The fact that we have a criminal underclass whose belief system revolves around violence as a means of survival is simply a reflection of a leadership with a belief system based on greed and self-aggrandizement, he said.

BULA! VAKAVITI - THE FIJIAN WAY | Pacific Islands Report

BULA! VAKAVITI - THE FIJIAN WAY Submitted by admin on Mon, 06/05/2000 - 00:00 Why should the Brits be allowed to wash their hands and meanwhile moralize about playing the game? FOCUS page from the Papua New Guinea Post-Courier PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (June 4, 2000 - Post-Courier/PINA Nius Online) -Someone once said - I imagine it must have been Bill Shakespeare - the evil men do lives after them, or something like that. Well, in the case of Fiji, up with your hand Mr. Blair, because Britain was certainly responsible for this one. She didn t even conquer or settle the Fijian islands. They were handed over to the British Queen by the King of Fiji, Cakobau, for safekeeping!
