PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (April 9, 1999 - The National) -Street-level violent crime simply reflects the greed of the nation s leaders, Chief Ombudsman Commissioner Simon Pentanu said yesterday.
Mr. Pentanu told the law and order summit here that if the belief system of PNG’s leaders was corrupted or the political system was corrupted, individuals at all levels of society would be corrupted. The fact that we have a criminal underclass whose belief system revolves around violence as a means of survival is simply a reflection of a leadership with a belief system based on greed and self-aggrandizement, he said.
