Mari Hulman George Estate attracts Hoosiers from across the state

By DeSherion McBroom Jun 13, 2021 | 8:05 PM TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)  Visitors poured into the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds to grab a piece of history at the Mari Hulman George Estate auction. According to Hulman estate representative Bill Metzger, at least 1,500 visitors attended the auction over the weekend, with many people coming each day of the auction. Metzger says the connection between the Hulman family and the city of Terre Haute is of great importance. “The people of Terre Haute have been coming out and strong and buying a lot of things which is what we want to do,” said Metzger. “We wanted to have the chance for people of Terre Haute to come and own a piece of history. They’ve been enjoying that and finding a lot of treasures, packed away.”

The estate of Mari Hulman George heads to auction

(WTWO/WAWV) Auction lovers and history buffs alike will want to head to the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds June 11 through 13 as the Mari Hulman George estate goes up for auction. Items from the Hulman family’s personal collection will be available including more than 1,000 books from the family library. Generations of furniture, collectibles, Cook’s Beer and much more will be up for grabs. Racing fans will likely be interested in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway memorabilia. The IMS had been owned by Tony Hulman and Hulman & Co. since 1945; however, Tony George and his three sisters sold the home of the Indy 500 to Roger Penske in January of last year.
