BRATTLEBORO â On Wednesday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m., artist Scott Boyd joins Endangered Alphabets Project founder and author Tim Brookes for a free Zoom conversation presented by the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center.
Boyd will speak about âEndangered Alphabets,â a 10-foot-high obelisk he created, on which he inscribed characters, symbols and scripts drawn from the writing systems of endangered languages. The obelisk is on view outside the museum through November. Boyd and Brookes will also discuss the Endangered Alphabets Project and its influence on Boydâs work. Boyd initially became interested in endangered alphabets when he attended a presentation by Brookes about the Endangered Alphabets Project, a Vermont nonprofit that supports endangered, minority and indigenous cultures throughout the world by preserving their writing systems. BRATTLEBORO â Five new exhibits open at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center on Saturday. The exhibits include group shows featuring paintings inspired by the idea of âexpeditionâ and artworks reflecting the legacy of famed photographer Minor White, as well as solo exhibitions by Delano Dunn, Charlie Hunter and Erick Johnson.
An opening reception, free and open to all, will take place on Saturday at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served outdoors, and many of the exhibiting artists and curators will be in attendance. In addition to the five new exhibits, visitors can view two outdoor installations that opened in May: âDelita Martin: Between Worldsâ and âScott Boyd: Endangered Alphabets.â
