Mara Phones SA emerges government s preferred brand – CAJ News Africa

by MTHULISI SIBANDA JOHANNESBURG,  (CAJ News) – THE country’s sole manufacturer of mobile devices has welcomed the South African government’s recognition as its preferred device brand in all procurement for the next five years. Mara Phones welcomed the endorsement, which is under the aegis of the recently -awarded RT15-2021 contract for the supply and delivery of mobile communication services to the state for the period April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2026. “This is the result of years of hard work and tireless dedication from my exceptional team,” said Sylvester Taku, Managing Director of Mara Phones SA. He said this was a huge boost to South Africa’s local economy and employment, and it demonstrated the government’s and the network operators’ faith in them as South Africa’s flagship smartphone brand.

Taku has been doing business in Africa for over 20 years and has made accelerating growth through smart, well-considered moves his signature style. He has been the Head of Growth at Mara Phones since 2019 and led the opening of the first bricks-and-mortar Mara Experience Store in Maponya Mall, Soweto, exactly a year after Mara Phones unveiled the country’s first smartphone manufacturing facility in KZN.  This retail store enables customers to experience the look and feel of state-of-the-art Mara Phones devices while being able to interact with technical specialists in their own community.

Jasper Hart Mid-range devices available from Mara’s website and Livewire’s eFones  Livewire Telecom is the exclusive launch distributor for Mara Phones, the smartphone brand whose devices are exclusively manufactured in Africa. Mara devices are available through the manufacturer’s website, as well as Livewire’s online retail arm eFones, having launched on December 3. The manufacturer is a subsidiary of the Dubai-based Mara Corporation. It opened its first factories in October last year, in the Rwandan capital Kigali, and the South African port city of Durban, with a third in the Nigerian city of Lagos to come next year. It sells its devices in 25 African countries.
